It took us one year to write the book from start to publishing.
What inspired you to share your story?
At our children’s funeral we saw how the Chicken in the Basket story was giving everyone a sense of peace. Beth knew in that moment that we would have to write a book to share our story. The Chicken in the Basket story was for everyone, not just for us.
Did you find the writing process to be therapeutic?
No. It was like ripping off a bandage that had covered so many feelings that we had to relive. The book was not done for us to heal; it was done to help others heal. The thing that we didn’t expect was that we became closer throughout the process. We told each other things that we had not before because we didn’t want to cause each other more pain during that time after the accident.
What message do you want readers to take away from your book?
There are many different messages in the book. We hope that people will be able to take from the book what they need. Some of the main messages are that there is life after death, your loved ones never leave you and you can find meaning and happiness in your life after great tragedy.
