I love Melanie Martinez. She is literally my sister from another mister. Her voice is like melted chocolate. Melanie's music is so unique. Her voice sounds so sweet and innocent, but when you really listen to the lyrics, they are intense.
In this song in particular song, Tag You're It, it's about a girl kidnapped. But sound as innocent as a child singing a lullaby. I can't tell if that is completely genius and creative or creepy.
Melanie's music is pop, but it has a very different sound to it. Her music sounds like music you would hear at carnivals. It's a great mixture of creepy and whimsical. I honestly don't know anyone who doesn't love Melanie Martinez music. I want everyone to know her music!

Choice of the Week: Dirty Little Secret by The All-American Rejects
Honestly I don't know why I love this song so much. I mean I haven't heard it in a couple years up until last week. Don't get me wrong, I love The All-American Rejects, they're amazing. Their other song, Gives You Hell is literally my life theme song. I think I love this song because it's loud and fast. I listen to it while I read, travel and write (and maybe to random dance parties). Dirty Little Secret is one-hundred percent catchy and likeable. I mean if was released in 2005 and is still playing on the radio eleven years later then it's a hit.
I would want anyone who checks out my blog to check out this song, because you never know what music you'll enjoy.

Choice of the Week: So What Cha Want by Beastie Boys
Lets be honest, this is a classic song. I mean even if you don't like the Beastie Boys, you gotta love this song. I mean you must be on "crazy cheese" if you don't. My mom actually introduced me to the Beastie Boys. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I love them because I find them funny. Their lyrics are ridiculous, but I think that's why I love it.
"Well, just plug me in just like I was Eddie Harris
You're eating crazy cheese like you would think I'm from Paris
You know I get fly, you think I get high
You know that I'm gone and I'm-a tell you all why"
This song is definitely catchy, its one of those songs. I mean every time I hear it on the radio or on a playlist, I "sing" along. Sometimes I wish that more of my generation can appreciate rappers/singers like this. I am totally in love in this song!

Choice of the Week: In Common by Alicia Keys
Honestly, I didn't know any of Ms. Keys songs before Girl on Fire. I wish I did. The main reason why I like this song is because of the rhythm and the beat. Alicia Keys' voice is amazing. I mean it's hypnotizing. This song is about a girl singing about wanting a guy, she is say she doesn't want the guy. Which I think is awesome. One of the reasons I gave this song a "chance" is because I know Ms. Keys is different. She stands up in what she believes and also because she is so talented.
This part of the song has to be my favorite because its personal. She acknowledges that her and her "man" made a mistake. And that they are not meant to be together.
"We used to talk 'til midnight
All those days that you stayed at my house
We were just passing the time
When we were young and we ain't had no vows
Now, now, now maybe later on, I'll text you and maybe you'll reply
We both know we had no patience together day and night
Getting high on our supply, yeah, we ain't satisfied
I could love you all occasions
We got way too much in common
If I'm being honest with you
We got way too much in common
Since I'm being honest with you
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be messed up too
Who wants to love somebody like me?
You wanna love somebody like me?
If you could love somebody like me
You must be messed up too"
I would recommend this song to anyone how wants to listen to pop/modern music. Also if they love Alicia Keys' voice.

Choice of the Week: You Don't Own Me by Grace ft. G-Eazy (Cover of Lesley Gore's)
I really, really love this song. It's one of those songs that I was sad to not discover it sooner. I know that "You Don't Own Me" was originally performed by Lesley Gore, I think Grace did an AMAZING cover of the song. It has to be one of the best covers I've heard, it has the same sound but more modern. I appropriate the thought obviously was put in. I actually like G-Eazy's part, which surprised me. Both Grace's voice and his really go together. The lyrics are great, the ones that were added just flow perfectly. Grace sings so patiently, she really put herself into it.
My favorite part of this song is;
I don't tell you what to say
I don't tell you what to do
So just let me be myself
That's all I ask of you
I'm young and I love to be young
I'm free and I love to be free
To live my life the way I want
To say and do whatever I please
I love this song because it is a song about a strong, independent woman and I think we need more songs like that.

Choice of the Week: What the Hell by Avril Lavigne
This song is classic to me. The first time I heard this song was on MTV on my Disney "themed" TV. One of the old ones. Avril Lavigne is one of my all time favorite singers. I mean you gotta admit she is a totally rad chick. I've always looked up to her.Her songs make me feel empowered, like "Hey, you can't mess with me". Avril's song, What the Hell is my life's theme song. I think it's awesome when you feel confident listening to certain songs or music. Some may disagree with my point of few, but I think her songs make people feel good about themselves.
I enjoy her old songs and even her new ones. I do think her old songs, What the Hell, Smile, Girlfriend, Hot and etc. will always be the best. Avril Lavigne is a classic twenty-first century pop star. Her punk look and attitude gives her songs an extra push.
I look forward to her making new music sometime in the future and jamming out to her old ones. I reccomend Ms. Lavigne's music to everyone. What the Hell is one of my all time favorites. Please check this song if you get the chance!

Choice of the Week: Electric Love by BØRNS
I discovered this song on the radio and fell in love with it instantly. It wasn't dark or sad, it's a very upbeat and catchy song. I've never heard of BØRNS before so I went on a treasure hunt to find this song. I keep it on my work/homework/procrastinating playlist. Electric Love is definitely different from the rest of "pop" songs that play on the radio today. It's original, the lyrics are beautiful. I also adore BØRNS voice. The beat of the song makes you want to have a dance party with disco lights. And everyone loves disco lights.
And every night my mind is running around her
Thunder's getting louder and louder and louder
Baby, you're like lightning in a bottle I can't let you go now that I got it And all I need is to be struck by your electric love Baby, your electric love Electric love
This verse above is my personal part of the song. I would recommend this song to many people. Its a catchy, fun song perfect for anyone who needs a little happiness.

Choice of the Week: Death of a Bachelor by Panic! At the Disco
Panic! At the Disco is a band that I've been listening to for awhile now. They recently just released their album called Death of a Bachelor. It's amazing. The song, Death of a Bachelor is just jaw dropping. It has a Frank Sinatra feel to it, but it also has modern elements.
The band's music has definitely evolved over the years, especially the lead singer's voice, Brendon Urie. Death of the Bachelor is just a piece of the pie. The other songs on the album, Crazy=Genius, Don't Threaten Me With a Good Time and Emperors New Clothes are all written and executed perfectly.
I've recommend Panic! At the Disco to all my friends and whenever we hangout we listen to them. I'm excited for new albums in the future by Panic! At the Disco. This album and this particular song should deserve more credit then they're given! Here is my favorite part of the song:
I'm cutting my mind off
It feels like my heart is going to burst
Alone at a table for two and I just wanna be served
And when you think of me am I the best you've ever had?
Share one more drink with me, smile even though you're sad

Choice of the Week: Colors by Halsey
Halsey is a singer I came across awhile ago, so I thought I should pick Colors as my Monday choice. It was a hard decision because all of Halsey's songs are AMAZING! Its from her album called, Badlands. I like Halsey because she is a self made artist and worked extremely hard to get where she is right now. Colors is about how relationships can be all over the place sometimes. This verse just describes a real life situations.
"You were red, and you liked me because I was blue
But you touched me, and suddenly I was a lilac sky
Then you decided purple just wasn’t for you"
I can honestly listen to Colors on repeat for an hour, her voice draws me in. The lyrics are so clear and I feel like she puts one hundred and ten percent into ever song, which I appreciate. The whole album is just great, cannot wait for more music from Halsey!

Choice of the Week: Glowing Eyes by Twenty One Pilots
Twenty One Pilots was introduced to me in the beginning of the year. I feel in love with their music and frequently listen to them. Tyler Joseph is the main vocals of Twenty One Pilots and many consider it rap or "fast poetry". I find their music original, you don't find that often now a days.
This particular song, Glowing Eyes just spoke out to me. I also loved it because a wide variety instruments are preformed by the drummer, Josh Dun. He also sings with Tyler Joseph. I find the lyrics upbeat and fun. To me the lyrics and deep if you really listen to them. Glowing Eyes if about getting out of the darkness and holding onto your roots.
Glowing Eyes is from Twenty One Pilots' third album, Regional at Best. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something new.

Choice of the Week: Timebomb by Tove Lo
Tove Lo is consistently making good quality songs and I feel like Timebomb is her best one yet. Once again I choose a song that feels real and many people can relate to. Sadly it's not one of her "big hits", but I think it should be. Tove Lo's voice in this song is literally BEAUTIFUL. The instruments/sound effects that are used work amazingly with her voice. The music video for Timebomb shows that relationships are not always perfect. I also think that is the point of this song is sometimes relationships also don't work out. One of my favorite parts is:
"You took the key out of the ignition
I could hear the rain on the windows Right then and there I made up my mind to just go with it Thinking what's the worst thing that could happen? When the worst thing that could happen, could be the best thing ever"
I love Tove Lo's work and I will keep on jamming out to her album, Queen of the Clouds. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for some new awesome music.

Choice of the Week: Roses by Chainsmokers ft. ROZES
Alright so I'm not huge fan of the Electric music genre, but this song by Chainsmokers does make into one of my favorite songs right now. When they first came out with their single "#Selfie" I was not impressed, so I never bothered to look them up again until I heard Roses on the radio. I feel in love with it head first. The vocals by ROZES were OUTSTANDING and the beat was just awesome. So I looked it up and found it was by Chainsmokers. This song changed my mind about them, I started exploring their newly released music. It's great, I love the artist they collaborate with and each song sounds different. Now this is in my regular playlist and I absolutely recommend it. It's upbeat and I think is perfect to listen to while reading or writing. Can't wait to listen to more of Chainsmokers' music!

Choice of the Week: Past Lives by Ke$ha

Ke$ha's music varies for me, it's either party music or music you listen to, to feel better. Past Lives is my favorite song by her. Its on my writing play list, so I listen to it when I'm writing my book or writing a review. I think this song speaks out to me because I feel it has a deeper music then a "hit song".
I would recommend this song to anyone that likes a slow rhythm , a smooth voice and some incredible lyrics. I think my favorite part of the song is ...
"We were lovers in a past life
I can see it in your green eyes
Maybe you were one of my wives
In a long last tribe"
This song is from Ke$ha's album called Warrior, and I do have to say that this is my favorite album of her's. If you want a song similar to Past Lives that's also by Ke$ha, I would recommend, "Last Goodbye" or "Wonderland".

Choice of the Week: Growing Up (Sloane's Song) by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ed Sheeran
Note:
This my first entry for New Music Monday and I know it's Thursday. I just wanted to post one this week, so pretty much I want to share my love of music with my fellow humans. Every Monday starting now I will feature a song or even album I've been listening to. Just wanted to start talking about something other then my love for books. <3 Emily ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week I chose Growing Up (Sloane's Song) by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ed Sheeran. I personally am a huge fan of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, so I was excited to hear this song. I first heard it on the radio on the bus. I immediately knew it was Macklemore, he has this voice that speaks to you. Its deep and real. You know that everyone that participated in the making of Growing Up that they put their heart and soul into it.
I looked up "Macklemore's new song" in Google and found it. I've been listening to it on repeat for the past couple of days, even now as I'm writing. The lyrics were so beautiful that I had to know what inspired it. I came across Growing Up's website and loved it was inspired by Macklemore's (Ben's) newborn Sloane. It just makes it even more enjoyable.
I read more and saw he was giving away a free download Growing Up (Sloane's Song). That's so awesome that anyone can listen to it. Without paying the usual fee of a dollar a song or have to go on YouTube or whatever to listen to deep music. I've been talking to my friends about Macklemore's latest song and I even was spreading the word to my own father.
So that's my opinion on Growing Up (Sloane's Song) by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ed Sheeran. I love it, it's in my top ten right now. Five stars! (Yes I'm rating it like one of my books)
