Book Review: Death by Diploma by Kelley Kaye

Death by Diploma
By Kelley Kaye
Genre: Cozy Mystery

Book Description:

Emma Lovett leaves her philandering husband and crosses the country to begin her teaching career at a high school in Pinewood, Colorado.  There, she meets Leslie Parker, a fellow teacher given to quoting Shakespeare to fit all situations, and the two become fast friends.

Arriving at work early one morning, Emma discovers the body of the school custodian, a man who reminds her of her late father. When the police struggle to find the killer, the ladies decide to help solve the murder. Their efforts lead them to a myriad of suspects: the schizophrenic librarian, the crude football coach, the mysterious social studies teacher, and even Emma’s new love interest.

As Emma Lovett discovers the perils of teaching high school, she and Leslie learn more than they ever wanted to know about the reasons people kill.

Book Review:
Death by Diploma is about Emma Lovett who just moved to Colorado to kick off her teaching career. She soon meets her new best friend, Leslie, another teacher at the high school. When all seems well, disaster strikes. The kind custodian is found dead. The two women decide to take the murder case from the silly detective and take matters into their own hands. Suspects quickly add up, including Emma's new interest. Many secrets are discovered by the two quirky women.
Death by Diploma is incredible! Omigosh, I am utterly in love with this novel! I found the plot to be executed perfectly, it just all made sense. Emma Lovett is the perfect character for this book. She is funny and different, but is actually a some-what "normal" person. I think my favorite aspect of this book is the friendship between Emma and Leslie. They reminded me of two life-long friends who have never left one another's side.
The mystery of the book is wonderful! I honestly had no clue who the murderer was. There is so many plot twists that add backstory to the book. Which I love. I genuinely was shocked by the ending, but it still made sense.
Ms. Kaye did a fantastic job on Death by Diploma! I was captured by the first page! I will recommend this to anyone. Definitely one of my favorite books. I hope to read the rest of the Chalkboard Outlines! Five stars!
Author Bio:
Kelley Kaye taught High School English and Drama for twenty years, but her love for storytelling dates back to creating captions for her high school yearbook. Maybe back to the tales she created around her Barbie and Ken — whatever the case, the love’s been around for a long time.

Kelley is married to this amazing man who cooks for her, and they have two funny and wonderful sons. She lives in Southern California.
